TDJ006 - Spinner the Spider Beanie Baby plush by TY

“This spider is creeping me out but he won’t let go of it!”

This is what a concerned mother remarked emphatically over the phone as her son (shown below) had a ball with this cuddly creature. Although this Beanie Baby from TY is “Retired” (out of production) it has by no means lost its verve!

I’ve been super impressed with the longevity and originality the Beanie Baby line has shown throughout the years. It is, without a doubt, one of the premiere collectibles currently out there, and there is no sign of stopping it.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on three of these specimens. The two pictured below are for playing, and the third (not pictured) is for display only. Unfortunately, now only one of the two pictured is for playing, since I killed a spider with the other one and am no longer allowed to get it near the cute baby you saw in the first picture. You’ll notice the slight size difference between these: proof of TY’s handcrafted quality (although there is a “Teenie” model as well). These two have an average length of 6.75” from tip of leg to end of butt.

You can find these for under $5.00 on eBay, so they make great gifts. The great part is, they are in no way fragile, so sending them by mail to friends and family alike is no problem.

As far as display goes, Spinner looks great alongside his Beanie Baby brethren, but alone on a shelf he can cause a bit of a fright. Plus, you can’t really pose him. He just kind of sits there on his thorax, legs limp.

Lack of poseability is to be expected from a plush though, and his squeezablilty far and away makes up for the lack of poses to be stricken.

I’d be lying if I said I was going to try and collect all the rest of the Beanie Baby line, but I am delighted with Spinner. And so is that baby. The one from the picture up top.

Find them on eBay here or for sale here.

"Thank you, Sam!

I must admit, when I pulled up your Paypal payment to process the shipping, I saw a note that you evidently wrote when you paid... not sure how, but this note did not appear on the email notification that I first received. If it had, I would never have tried to confirm, I would have just followed your directions. So I apologize for the delay! It is being dropped off at my post office within the hour. It is addressed to Asher Fritz and does not include any paperwork that may tip him off to your identity! Hope he gets a laugh out of your joke....

Thanks again,
Cindy"
