Featured Toy Shop - Ka-Pow!! Collectibles

Last week I had my second trip to Ka-Pow!! Collectibles in Lakeview (Chicago) and got to have a quick chat with the owner, Romeo. The shop has tons of vintage and had to find items as well as some newer stuff that you might have missed at retail. The shop is open in the afternoon, but closed on Tuesday (check the image below for actual hours) and it's worth noting that for now the shop is cash only. 

I picked up a couple vintage GI Joes a Blind box Sketbot and a vintage off-brand transformer toy that I had when I was little. It's a cool little camera that is made of die-cast and plastic. I used to pretend that he was Reflector (though he's only one dude) when I was little. Pretty awesome shop, stop on in when you've got a free afternoon. 711 West Belmont Ave. or find them on Facebook. Romeo even let me take a couple pictures of HypNO from Pulsar that he had on display, great figure!

Toy de Jour (215) - Darth Nihilus

My friend Andrew that I mentioned on yesterday's post actually sent in a figure that he was pretty impressed with; Darth Nihilus from the Star Wars Evolutions "The Sith Legacy" set. He's a pretty neat looking figure, pretty scary presence for a piece of plastic that's less than 4" tall.  I know I've said it before that I don't really collect Star Wars (on the numerous posts showing off SW figures I've bought) but I wouldn't mind picking up this guy.

Toy de Jour (214) - MoonDreamers Evil Scowlene

One of the best Christmas gifts we got this past year was from Andrew and Missy; not only was it an awesome figure from an obscure 80s girls' toy line, but no one had any idea what it was at the time. One of the best things about toy collecting is solving toy mysteries and this one took a bit to solve. 

But after some scouring, we found out that we were now the proud owners of Evil Scowlene, from the MoonDreamers toy line. Released in 1986 as a My Little Pony & Friends cartoon, the toys released for the show by Hasbro were nothing less than impressive. This figure actually glows in the dark, both in the face but also the eyes in her dress that I assume are poor creatures that she's captured in the fabric.

Pretty awesome/creepy figure that we're glad to have in our collection!

Toy de Jour (213) - The Trash Pack blind package figures

I'm increasingly becoming interested in all of the "blind" packaging that I see at mass-retail as of late. Mooshi Monsters, Lego, Playmobil, Mighty Beanz and now (series 2) The Trash Pack by Moose Toys.  I bought two eggs but there's tons of sets; a garbage truck with trash can, collectors case, trash can packs and even dissolving reveal figure sets. 

I got four figures total (two in each egg) and I apparently got one Ultra Rare, two Rare and one Common figure.  Yay?
